Today the 140th China Import and Export Fair opened its doors in Guangzhou, and our team is now settled in Zone B at booth 9.1-41 for the first phase of the show, which runs through October 19. After months of preparing samples and loading the booth, it feels good to finally stand on the floor and talk face to face with buyers again.
What we brought to the booth
We came to Guangzhou with our full range of cold rolled and coated steel products, but two materials are clearly getting the most attention on day one.
The first is our wood grain color coated steel series. Buyers working on interior decorative wall panels, furniture, garage doors and prefabricated housing kept stopping at the sample rack to run a finger over the embossed surface. Several visitors told us they had been sourcing ordinary PPGI for years and were looking for a finish that actually reads as real wood under close inspection. We walked through film thickness, coating weight, spangle type, minimum order quantity and lead time for the most popular patterns, and ended the day with a solid stack of follow-up requests.
The second product pulling the crowd today is plain galvalume steel coil, especially the AZ150 specification. A number of buyers from roofing and cladding backgrounds were comparing its corrosion performance against traditional galvanized sheet, and the 55% aluminum-zinc coating kept coming up in conversation. We explained the spangle structure, cut-edge corrosion resistance and typical use cases in roofing systems, ventilation ducts and cold storage panels, and left with several requests for mill test certificates and coil specs.
A first-day photo with a buyer
Throughout the exhibition, we took many photos with our clients. One overseas buyer, who had traveled specifically to attend the event, spent nearly forty minutes at our booth-carefully comparing various wood-grain finishes and inquiring in detail about custom color-matching options. What began as a discussion about samples evolved into a conversation about an upcoming construction project. By the time we shook hands to part ways, we had reached an agreement: before the week is out, we will send a set of physical samples along with a formal price quotation.
It is precisely these kinds of moments that keep us returning to the Canton Fair year after year. While video calls and emails are undoubtedly efficient and convenient, there is simply no digital substitute for the experience of spreading out material samples on a table, examining them closely under the light, and discussing technical tolerances face-to-face.
