On the morning of October 15, the aisles in the 9.1 exhibition zone of the 140th Canton Fair were already packed with people; it was then that we opened our booth-Booth 41 in the 9.1 zone. Five days later, on the afternoon of October 19, we packed the last sample back into its box and departed from the exhibition hall. What follows is an account of what we witnessed during this period: who visited our booth, what requirements they expressed, and how our follow-up communications will unfold.

Who walked in

Over five days, our four-person team - two on sales, one on technical support, one on merchandising - talked to buyers from more than twenty countries. The geography tracked pretty closely with what we expected going in:

Southeast Asia: Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia

Middle East: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait

Africa: Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa

A few buyers from Bangladesh and Pakistan came through as well, mostly comparing CIF Jebel Ali and CIF Nhava Sheva rates against the suppliers they already use.

Through the first four days, traffic was spread across our regular lineup - galvanized steel coil (GI), galvalume steel coil (GL), aluminum coil, prepainted coil (PPGI / PPGL / PPAL) and corrugated roofing sheets. The last day tilted in a direction we hadn't planned for.

Day 5: prepainted galvalume got specific

By the final morning, the casual "what do you make?" questions had thinned out. The people who stopped by Booth 9.1|41 already knew what they were looking at. Prepainted galvalume (PPGL) drew the most detailed questions, and they clustered around the same few specs:

Substrate coating weight: AZ150 was the most requested, especially from buyers in coastal Southeast Asia and the Arabian Peninsula

Gauge sat mostly between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm, in 1000 mm and 1219 mm widths, for roll-forming into roofing and wall cladding

Paint system: PE polyester on budget projects, PVDF where a 10+ year warranty was required

Colors came back to the same three RALs almost every time: RAL 9002 white, RAL 5015 sky blue, RAL 3002 brick red

We brought physical color chips and cut sample pieces. Most buyers took one of each back to their booth or their hotel. A handful asked us to ship small sample rolls after the fair - those are already on our list.

Stainless steel came up more than we expected

Stainless steel isn't our main line. We work off GI, GL and prepainted coil, with aluminum as a smaller volume. But on Day 5 we had more stainless questions than in the previous four days combined, mostly from Middle Eastern buyers.

What they wanted was fairly consistent:

Grade 201 and 304 by volume; a couple of coastal buyers asked about 316 for humid, salt-air locations

2B finish, thin gauge from 0.3 mm up to around 2 mm

Cut-to-length sheets and slit coils, not full master coils

End uses came up again and again: commercial kitchens, elevator and door trim, household appliances

We took names, gauges and finish requirements on the spot, and we'll come back to these buyers with actual pricing and mill-test certificates this week.

Where the conversations are going

Not everyone was just collecting catalogs. A number of buyers sat down and talked through actual projects:

Roofing distributors in Vietnam and the Philippines are quoting warehouse tenders through Q4 and wanted current CIF Hai Phong / CIF Manila numbers

Two Middle Eastern buyers asked about trial container loads - one 40HQ first, before recurring orders

A buyer from East Africa wanted to know whether we could run a custom RAL color on a one-container trial

We took notes on each conversation, photographed the material references together with the buyer, and logged follow-ups the same evening so nothing got dropped.

Four people, five days

Our team in Guangzhou was four people. Two handled the buyer conversations front-of-booth. One covered technical questions - coating weights, thickness tolerances, spangle, export packaging standards. One ran merchandising, confirming lead times, container loading plans and inspection arrangements before buyers left the table. By the afternoon of Day 5 we had run through most of the color chips twice, but the samples were still sorted and the inquiry cards were still filled in.

If you didn't make it to Guangzhou

For buyers who couldn't visit Booth 9.1|41 this edition: catalogs, spec sheets and current price lists are all on request. Send us your target specs - substrate, gauge, width, coating weight, paint system, port of discharge - and we'll come back with an offer within one business day.
